Larry Johnson, CEO, New Media Consortium
Whenever the topic of technology comes up, its less comely twin, unrelenting change, also seems to appear. How can educators today stay abreast of emerging technology without taking time away from the pressing demands of the real work that needs to be done? In this session, Larry Johnson, leader of the NMC’s Horizon Project, will review the research, process, and findings of the 2007 Horizon Report and use that to set the stage for a discussion of one of the areas that report identified as worthy of our collective time this year — virtual worlds. The NMC has one of the largest and most significant demonstration projects on virtual worlds anywhere. The effort includes not only a fully-realized campus in SL and a thriving community of more than 4,000, but also an active blog, wiki, community directory, as well as streaming servers and other technical infrastructure.
