"Exploring
the ARTstor Digital Library"
February 28, 2005
3:30 PM
Whitman College, Olin 180 or Maxey Lab (Location TBA)
Presenters:
* Thomas Sebastian, Associate Professor of German, Department of Modern
Languages and Literatures, Trinity University, San Antonio, Texas
* Gina Dabrowski, Program Associate, Midwest Instructional Technology
Center, Ann Arbor, Michigan
Thomas Sebastian and Gina Dabrowski will demonstrate the ARTstor
Digital
Library and facilitate hands-on practice with the tool. Initiated
at The
Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the ARTstor Digital Library is comprised
of
over 300,000 digital images and their corresponding data; the tools
to make
active use of those images; and an online environment intended
to balance
the interests of users with those of content providers. The collection
is
intended for those interested in teaching and learning with images.
ARTstor
documents artistic and historical traditions across many time-periods
and
cultures and focuses on, but is not limited to, the arts. As a
campus-wide
resource, ARTstor is designed to be used by researchers and teachers
in
fields that do not traditionally use images, as well as by art
historians.
